Quality Control Diving Inspection Services of Rehabilitation to the Substructures of Piers 1, 2, 3 and 5 located at the PANY&NJ Brooklyn Marine Terminal. The project included working directly with the Brooklyn Marine Terminals Resident Engineer and his staff to monitor the on-going installation of thousands of linear feet of PVC pile wrapping aimed at remediating marine borer intrusion. Dissolved oxygen measurements and testing were periodically taken at randomly selected piles to assess the effectiveness of the wraps. In addition, BUE inspected and verified the installation of reinforced concrete jacketing of various structural members. A total of 70 days were spent in the field using a 3-man dive team in carrying out the construction inspection work.

Expert professional services for performance of Condition Surveys of Waterfront Facilities on a Call-In Basis for the Quality Assurance Division of the Port Authority of NY & NJ, BUE performed Condition Surveys of Berths 88 thru 98 and Turntable. The scope of work included the inspection of approximately 220,500 sq.ft. of concrete wharf decking; over 6,000 timber piles; over 430 steel pipe piles; over 4,900 concrete extensions; over 19,000 sq.ft. of concrete underdeck; and over 4,500 l.f. of steel sheet pile bulkhead. The inspections included rating the structural condition of these various structural elements. During the course of the inspection, hazardous structural conditions were noted due to severed concrete extensions which required immediate repairs; these occurred on 13 piles at Berth 88. Repair recommendations for immediate, priority, routine and safety repairs were quickly developed and submitted to the Authority. A total of 40 days using a 3-man dive team consisting of engineer divers and operating from a 25-ft. boat were expended in completing the field inspection.
