Project:
River Street Rail Trestle Replacement

Client:
City of Hackensack

Services:
Design and Construction Supervision

Boswell provided the design and construction engineering / inspection for the replacement of the 100-year old rail trestle over River Street. River Street is a high volume four-lane thoroughfare transversing north-south through the City of Hackensack.

The project's major components included the construction of a new structure with a vertical under clearance of 14'-6" (the pre-existing clearance was 12'), widening of the roadway beneath the trestle from three-lanes to five-lanes, intersection improvements, signalization,  upgrading the drainage system and track relocation. Also incorporated into the design was the provision for a second track and a platform to accommodate future light rail service.

This project is a perfect example of how a public-private partnership involving all levels of government (local, county and state) overcame the bureaucratic challenges that delayed this project for decades and improved the quality of life for local residents and the traveling public.
