Project: River Street Rail Trestle, Hackensack
Client: City of Hackensack
Services: Design and Construction Supervision
Boswell provided the design and construction engineering/inspection of the 100-year old rail trestle over River Street. River Street is a high volume four-lane thoroughfare transversing north-south through the City of Hackensack.
The project's major components included the construction of a new structure with a vertical under clearance of 14'-6", widening of the roadway beneath the trestle to 60', intersection improvements, upgrading the drainage system and track relocation. Also incorporated into the design was the provision for a second track and a platform to accommodate future light rail service.
This project is a perfect example of how a public-private partnership involving all levels of government (local, county and state) can overcome the bureaucratic challenges that existed for decades and improve the quality of life for our citizens.
