    Description:

Boswell Engineering was retained by Stevens Institute of Technology (Stevens) to perform an asbestos containing material (ACM), lead based paint (LBP) and hazardous material survey of their 90-year-old Walker Gymnasium prior to extensive renovations.  Utilizing our experienced environmental staff Boswell provided Stevens with a expedient and successful turn-key project.  The Boswell survey team comprised certified Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) inspectors and lead inspectors/risk assessors licensed by the National Lead Assessment and Abatement Council (NLAAC).

Boswell first identified the location and quantity of asbestos and LBP present throughout the building.  All ACM/LBP locations were depicted on architectural building plans provided by Stevens.  Using quantity estimates, Boswell was able to ascertain the approximate project cost so that Stevens could appropriate the sufficient funds.  At several locations Boswell collected additional asbestos samples so that the final abatement cost could be more accurately defined.  Next, Boswell prepared detailed plans and specifications to bid the project out to approved abatement contractors.  Upon receipt of the bids, Boswell reviewed all contractor quotations and prepared a bid summary and recommendation of award.  Finally, Boswell provided construction management and worked closely with the project’s Asbestos Safety Control Monitor during the abatement to ensure compliance with all State and Federal regulations.
