North Bergen Municipal Building, North Bergen, NJ

Boswell Engineering was retained by Township of North Bergen to perform an asbestos containing material (ACM) and lead based paint (LBP) survey of their municipal building prior to extensive renovations. Utilizing our experienced environmental staff, Boswell provided the Township with an expedient and successful turn-key project. The Boswell survey team comprised certified Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) inspectors and lead inspectors/risk assessors licensed by the National Lead Assessment and Abatement Council (NLAAC).
Boswell first identified the
location and quantity of asbestos and LBP present in the areas scheduled for
renovation. All ACM/LBP locations were depicted on architectural building plans
provided by North Bergen. Using quantity estimates,
Boswell was able to
ascertain the approximate project cost so that the Township could
appropriate
the sufficient funds. Next, Boswell prepared detailed plans and
specifications to bid the project out to approved abatement contractors. Upon
receipt of the bids, Bo swell reviewed all contractor quotations and
prepared a bid summary and recommendation of award. Finally,
Boswell
provided construction management during the ACM abatements to ensure compliance
with all State and Federal regulations.
Boswell worked closely with the Asbestos Safety Control Monitor to develop a phased abatement approach that enabled all work to be conducted while the building was unoccupied, thus minimizing any disruption to municipal services.
