Client:
Borough of Oradell, New Jersey
Services:
Design and Construction Engineering
The primary objectives of this project were to: reduce traffic congestion;
increase the safety along this section of Kinderkamack Road and New Milford
Avenue; and, beautify the downtown area by incorporating a streetscape design
into the project. In order to attain these goals the following major design
criteria was incorporated into this project: widening of Kinderkamack Road from
one-lane in each direction to two-lanes in each direction; installing a traffic
signal at the intersection of Kinderkamack Road and New Milford Avenue; and,
improving the geometry of Kinderkamack Road.
The project improvements have eliminated the overall congestion problems and
have significantly increased the overall safety to both pedestrian and vehicular
traffic along the corridor. Sidewalks, in compliance with ADA standards, were
constructed on both sides of the road as well as handicap ramps at all
intersecting streets. The amenities incorporated into the project (brick paver
sidewalks, decorative lighting; a gazebo; shade trees; decorative receptacles;
and, benches) have enhanced the beauty of the business area and are
aesthetically pleasing and pedestrian friendly.
